RAISING MULTICULTURAL CHILDREN: Birthday cake!
How proud am I? Not known for my culinary skills, but I was determined to give Schmoo a beautiful Barbie cake on her birthday.
I've seen these doll cakes around in shop windows and online, and thought it would be wonderful to make one, if only to save on the cost of having one made to order.
This 'Barbie' doll is actually an Iridessa fairy doll with her hair pulled out of its bun, as Barbie's legs were just too long! I borrowed a friend's savarin mould and made a simple vanilla/cocoa marble cake inside. I had a lot of fun with the decoration, there's even some edible gold glitter on there! Most importantly Schmoo was thrilled with the final result :-)

No wonder you are proud! Well done you! Schmoo´s birthday cake is beautiful(and I bet it tastes delicious too!) I have yet to try making a doll/princess cake like this!!

DeleteGood for you! Looks great!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ikgmita, it was fun to make :-)
DeleteLooks fab!! I made one a couple of years back for my eldest and have to admit to giving barbie a partial amputation - her legs are just toooooo long! :0)
ReplyDeleteLOL! I had been warned by my friend about troublesome long Barbie legs! She made hers sort of kneel down to fit in the cake, but luckily I remembered we had this fairy doll that was a bit smaller.
Deletethat's impressive !
ReplyDeleteThanks, I have to admit it was easier than it looks though!
